Reusable Snack Bags Instead of Single-Use Plastic
These cute pastel silicone bags are practically mess-proof and last for years.
Why it helps: Saves £££ on disposable bags + reduces plastic waste.
Quick tip: Keep 2–3 in your nappy bag permanently.
These are such simple eco swaps for kids, we have used reusable ziplock bags which are also freezer friendly found here AND reusable pouches which saved so much money found here!

Buy Kids’ Clothes Pre-Loved (They Grow Too Fast Anyway)
Kids outgrow outfits in weeks — sometimes days!
Pre-loved shops, online marketplaces and swaps stretch your budget and cut textile waste.
Where to look: local children’s markets, Facebook groups, Vinted, charity shops and even children’s centre swap shops. All perfect for a low-waste lifestyle for parents.
SWAP SHOPS – Note that swap shops don’t mean you need to donate in order to swap for something else. You can donate or you can pick up items, no donation necessary if you don’t have one.
-
Switch to Reusable Water Bottles
A stainless steel or BPA-free bottle keeps drinks cold for hours.
Bonus: Works for parents too — no more emergency £3 water purchases.
We use Ion8 bottles and they have been great!
-
Replace Disposable Wipes With Reusable Cloth Wipes
Hear me out — reusable wipes work better, especially for sticky toddler hands.
Budget win: Families save £150–£250/year with cloth wipes.
Bambino Mio have a great range of reusable wipes which we have used and have been very durable. Easy to wash and dry.
You can use reusable wipes for faces, sticky hands and bums if you really want to. Just keep them separate of course! 😂 Or you can do what we did and reduce by using wet wipes for bums and reusable cloths for hands and faces (we keep these in the kitchen).
-
Choose Multi-Use Products (One for Everything)
Look for baby products that double up, reduce overwhelm from all the stuff, keep your house less cluttered and reduce what you are spending:
- Gentle shampoo + body wash combo
- Moisturisers suitable for the whole family
- Multipurpose balms for nappy rash, dry skin & eczema patches
- Fewer bottles = less clutter and lower costs.
-
Borrow Instead of Buying Big Items
From baby bouncers to slings to travel systems, borrowing is a game-changer.
Babies use many items for only a few weeks!
Where to borrow:
- friends or family
- local toy libraries
- community lending groups
- baby banks
If you cannot source the borrowed gear, here is the equipment we used and recommend:
- Red Kite Baby Bouncer – Great for when you just need a shower or literally just a wee!
- Sling for the best snuggles in the world. We used Supportive Sloths North West.
- Baby Carrier – We use the Sleepy Nico this is not a sponsored link, we just love the baby carrier!
- Bergaus Hiking Carrier – For all our camping holidays. We cannot find the direct link to the Bergaus version but here is one very similar on Amazon – the Deuter Kid Comfort Child Carrier
-
Swap Toys Regularly Instead of Buying New
Kids get bored quickly — swapping keeps things exciting without constant spending.
Try: playgroups, toy libraries, community swap days or rotating your own toys.
-
Reduce Food Waste With Freezer Snacks
Batch-freeze mini muffins, chopped fruit or porridge fingers.
You’ll always have grab-and-go snacks ready.
Savings: Fewer emergency shop trips + less waste.
-
Replace Plastic Plates With Durable Silicone
Silicone plates last for years, stick to the table, and survive toddler tantrums.
A one-off investment = no more replacing cracked plastic.
-
Opt for Second-Hand Books & Libraries
Not only is this sustainable — it’s wholesome.
Library trips become an experience, not a purchase. Libraries now offer audiobooks via an app called the Borrow Box!
