Description:

If you're looking for free things to do with kids in Widnes or planning a fun and affordable family day out in Cheshire, Victoria Park is one of the best places to visit. As a mum, I'm always searching for ways to keep the children entertained without spending a fortune and this is one of those places we return to again and again because there's so much for families to enjoy.

The playground is always the first stop for my children, with plenty of equipment to suit a range of ages. During the summer months, the splash park is a huge hit and the perfect place for little ones to cool down and have fun. There's also an ice cream kiosk next to the children's play area during the warmer months, while the park café serves ice creams, drinks, snacks and light refreshments throughout the year.

One of the things that makes Victoria Park so special is the variety of activities available. Children can visit the Butterfly House, tackle the climbing wall, enjoy the tennis and basketball courts, or simply explore the park's beautiful open spaces. The lake is home to ducks and other wildlife, making it a great spot for children to connect with nature. Feeding the ducks is always a favourite activity, and it's something my children look forward to every time we visit.

The park is also home to the much-loved Squirrel Park and a collection of charming fairy houses hidden around the grounds. These magical little features turn a simple walk into an adventure, with children excitedly searching for fairy doors and spotting squirrels along the way.

There is plenty of room for running around, family picnics, football games, bike rides and leisurely walks. The historic bandstand provides another great place for imaginative play, often becoming a stage where children can sing, dance and put on performances for the whole family.

As a parent, I appreciate how welcoming and family-friendly the park feels. There are wide pathways suitable for pushchairs, plenty of benches, toilet facilities and lots of space to relax while the children play. Whether you're visiting for a quick trip after school, a weekend outing, or a full day during the school holidays, there is more than enough to keep children entertained.

Victoria Park is open daily from 8:00am to 8:30pm, although opening times may vary seasonally.

Other events/activities available:

  • Kids running event every sunday
  • Tennis courts
  • Basket ball courts
  • Skate Ramps
  • Climbing wall
